Frankenstein 1931: Screening

30 June 2016: James Whale, Frankenstein

The fourth BookTalk of 2016 celebrated the 200th anniversary of the composition of Mary Shelley’s immortal Frankenstein with a film screening of James Whale’s iconic 1931 adaptation. More than any other adaptation—perhaps even more than the novel—it is this version of the story that dominates our popular consciousness today, inspiring numerous later adaptations and countless Halloween costumes. Our speakers for the evening were Megen de Bruin-Molé, Prof. Anthony Mandal, Dr Lisa Stead and Dr Maximiliaan van Woudenberg.
